What is the Magic City naming its pets?

Thanks to a recent study from pet-sitting and dog-walking platform Rover, we are able to figure that out — and Birmingham’s pet names may not be what you expect. 

Rover analyzed the names of cats and dogs added to their database by pet owners to figure out which names are most popular among major U.S. cities. Do you see your furry friend’s name?

Top 5 dog names in Birmingham

  1. Bella
  2. Daisy
  3. Luna
  4. Lucy
  5. Millie

Top 5 cat names in Birmingham

  1. Willow
  2. Frankie
  3. Charlie
  4. Chester
  5. Mia

Trending names better reflect what is popular during a given time rather than measuring just the quantity of pets with a certain name. According to Rover, the top names don’t change much, but these trending names show what is gaining traction in Birmingham.

  2. Molly (up 215%)
  3. Rocky (up 185%)

Top 3 trending cat names in Birmingham

  1. Frankie (up 737%)
  2. Willow (up 270%)
  3. Mia (up 237%)

Comparing Birmingham’s pet names to the U.S.

While top names for dogs and cats don’t tend to fluctuate much year-over-year, Birmingham did get some unique names compared to the rest of the country.

Rover did not release overall trending names for dogs and cats this year, but they did measure how names have changed for puppies and kittens. 

In order to do this, Rover looked at pets under the age of 2 that were added to the platform between August 2024 and September 2025.

  1. Elphie (up 244%)
  2. Tsuki (up 159%)
  3. Caesar (up 122%)
  4. Rumi (up 120%)
  5. Oswald (up 92%)

Top 5 trending kitten names in the U.S.

  1. Tater (up 92%)
  2. Milton (up 86%)
  3. Stewie (up 75%)
  4. Priscilla (up 73%)
  5. Gatsby (up 70%)
