Three former Winn-Dixie grocery stores in the Birmingham-metro area opened this week under the Food City banner.

In October, Winn-Dixie announced plans to sell-off all their stores in the state of Alabama by the end of 2025. As a result, locations in Trussville, Fultondale and Jasper closed and transitioned into Food City stores this month.

Below are the new Food City locations that opened on Thursday, November 6th:

  • Jasper, at 2405 U.S. 78 East
  • Trussville, at 465 Main St.
  • Fultondale at 1721 U.S. 31 North

“We’re excited to expand our operations into this new market area. Winn-Dixie has served the community for a number of years, and we are proud to welcome these stores into our Food City family. We will continue to make significant investments in the locations over the coming months to meet the needs of our customers and ensure the future success of our new teammates.”

Steven C. Smith, Food City President and Chief Executive Officer

According to Food City, which is headquartered in Virginia, the majority of the former Winn-Dixie store associates and store managers were retained.

Two Winn-Dixie stores remain

As of Sunday, November 9th, only two Winn-Dixie stores remain in the Birmingham-metro area.

They are:

  • Birmingham – 4476 Montevallo Road
  • Birmingham – 500 Inverness Corners

If they are not purchased, the two locations will close at the end of the year.
