PNC Bank has deployed a “mobile branch” in Birmingham, targeting areas with under-served communities to provide banking services to those who need it most.

The mobile branch is a 30-foot-long vehicle that travels to different community partners to provide personalized advice and service. Some of its services include:

  • Meeting with a personal banker for tailored financial guidance
  • Opening a checking account
  • Applying for a personal loan, credit card or mortgage
  • Receiving or replacing a PNC debit card
  • Receiving assistance with digital services
  • ATM services

According to the FDIC in 2024, about 5.2% of Alabama residents are unbanked, making accessible financial assistance incredibly important for the community.

In addition to community outreach, these branches-on-wheels allow PNC to help customers when a bank may not be easily accessible. The mobile branch can:

  • Deliver bank services in communities recovering from hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural disasters
  • Provide branch service to PNC customers when their brick-and-mortar branch is temporarily closed for upgrades
  • Help students access financial wellness education and apply for new accounts during onsite events like university move-in days
  • Partner with other organizations to encourage financial stability among their stakeholders

Birmingham is now PNC’s 11th market in the U.S. to host a mobile branch.

“This initiative goes beyond traditional banking; we’re meeting people where they live and work.”

Nick Willis, PNC regional president for Alabama

The mobile branch will rotate among several locations Monday – Friday, including:

It held its grand opening on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at one of its partner organizations, Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank, located at 1430 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd.
