Reading time: 2 minutes

Today, the American Baseball Foundation (ABF) hosted βOpening Dayβ at Birmingham’s historic Rickwood Field to celebrate its 30+ years of sports-based education.
There, ABF’s Executive Director revealed its new name, The SMARTPLAY, and exciting plans for the future of the organization.
About the American Baseball Foundation
The American Baseball Foundation, founded in 1994, educates elementary kids through sports-based academics.
ABF does this through a program called BASIC, which takes kids through reading, math and science lessons all centered around sports methods and terms.
Today, we joined Executive Director Casey Grammer at the historic Rickwood Field as he unveiled a new brand identity, scholarship opportunities and plans for expanding the nonprofit.
The American Baseball Foundation becomes “The SMARTPLAY”

Now known as The SMARTPLAY, the rebrand plans for this organization include:
- A scholarship fund for student athletes who consistently lead with high character
- An enhanced curriculum for reading, math and science
- A strategic plan for a new state-of-the-art campus
“Learn and play. These are two words that perfectly define what the ABF has become, an organization that uses sports, inspires student learning, makes sound decisions and makes the smart play in life and in the field competitions.”
Casey Grammer, Executive Director, The SMARTPLAY
