11 local wing spots + amazing flavors to try, like mango habanero at A-Train
Reading time: 8 minutes

Craving wings? You’re in luck because Birmingham serves them all over the city. We wish we could include them all, but let’s be honest, we’d be here for days.
Read on for a few delicious local spots and flavors to get you started.
1. A-Train
Need something good for your soul? We all know Southern food is the way to go.
One option in the Magic City is an order of wings from A-Train. They come in many flavors and can be as saucy as you want.
Some flavors to consider are:
- Hot honey
- Mango habanero
- Garlic pepper
Don’t forget the side! I can eat potatoes in any form, but fries are definitely at the top of my yummy list. A-Train’s come fully loaded with bacon ranch cheese or Cajun ranch, so be sure you’re extra hungry when you visit.
BONUS: A-Train has a food truck! Check their social pages to see when and where it will pop up around town.

2. Demetri’s

Demetri’s has been a Homewood staple since 1961 thanks to its amazing barbecue and wings. The restaurant was also on national news back in 2022 for a special cooking segment.
In terms of wings, you can order them solo or with ribs, plus your choice of bread and veggies.
Personally, if I’m going to indulge in a plate of wings, I’m going all out and getting them with a side of onion rings. But, you do you.
Psst! If you enjoy banana pudding, Demetri’s is one of the top spots to get it around Birmingham. Order it in a cup or pint.

3. Eugene’s Hot Chicken

The chicken at Eugene’s is truly delicious, whether it’s grilled between two buns or saucy wings in a basket.
They’re known for their seriously spicy wings served in heat levels like “Stupid Hot” which will make you physically sweat.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you. Some of the Bham Now team tried some of Eugene’s hottest flavors before, and let’s just say chugging milk was required. See the video.
Can’t take the heat? No worries. Their wings come in various spice levels, including the tamest of all—no heat.
While Eugene’s has two brick-and-mortar locations, the best thing about it is its food truck. I’ve attended many events around Birmingham, and Eugene’s big red truck has served tasty eats at nearly all of them.
Last year, they were parked at Sloss Furnaces during Magic City Art Connection. It was the perfect pit stop during a day spent browsing unique art.

4. Green Acres

If you haven’t been to Green Acres, where have you been? It’s been a secret gem for wings on Birmingham’s North Side since the 1950s.
If you’re going to visit, order your wings like the locals do: all the way.
This means they’ll be flavored and seasoned with ketchup, hot sauce and salt and pepper.

5. Ferus Artisan Ales

You’ll love the lemon pepper chicken wings and cocktails at Ferus Artisan Ales in Trussville (Bham Now)
Wings always taste best when you’re surrounded by family and friends. My go-to place is Ferus Artisan Ales at The Gateway, Trussville’s Entertainment District.
The sweet spot: outside where you can eat, drink and be merry at a picnic table or lounging on the lawn while the kids play.
What makes their chicken wings so good? They’re jumbo, fried crispy and come in great flavors.
The IPA Buffalo is a solid choice. However, my all-time favorite is the lemon pepper.
The drinks are great, too, especially their sour beers, so be sure to start a bar tab while you’re there.

6. J Wings

Most restaurants offer only a handful of wing flavors. Not J Wings at Birmingham’s Crossplex. Here, you’ll discover more than 30!
Their swag sauce is popular among local foodies who dig seasonings like lemon pepper and garlic pepper. But for me, it’s all about the unique flavors.
Some that have graced the menu at one point or another include:
- Citrus chipotle
- Kickin’ bourbon
- Spicy peach
Have you tried them?

7. Paramount Bar

Chicken wings and classic arcade games are the perfect pairing. Especially when you throw in some good drinks. You can get it all at Paramount on Birmingham’s 20th Street North.
The menu offers everything from burgers to salads, but the wings are a must. There are several flavors to choose from, like salt and vinegar with honey mustard and lemon, rosemary and pecorino cheese. But trust me when I say you can’t beat the Jamaican jerk with a side of pinball.

8. Moe’s Original BBQ

You’ll find Moe’s Original Barbecue at several locations around the Greater Birmingham Area. But if you want to hit up one of the most popular, head to Lakeview.
After undergoing renovations due to a fire in June 2024, the barbecue joint reopened in February with big changes. One to note is the patio which was completely rebuilt.
The best part? It’s the perfect spot to hang out while getting your wing fix.

9. The Goose
Wings are meant to be devoured in a chill space where you can relax with a beer in your hand and friends at your side. Enter The Goose.
The menu offers unique spins on salads, sandwiches and more with cleverly named items that will make you grin. For example, you can order The Hatchlings (6 wings, 1 sauce) or The Gaggle (30 wings, 3 sauces).

10. Wings R King

Ask every third person where to get the best chicken wings around Birmingham, and the answer will be Wings R King. Seriously. Most even offer lemon pepper as their top flavor choice.
Before you visit, you’ve been warned—these wings are addicting!

11. Yo’ Mama’s

The name Yo Mama’s may have you crackin’ schoolyard jokes, but there’s no joking about how delicious the food is.
The menu features drool-worthy chicken and waffles and a barbecue cheeseburger that will blow your mind. Also on the scrumptious list: hot wings!
They’re crispy on the outside, fall-off-the-bone tender on the inside and tossed in a savory sauce that’s both sweet and spicy.
Tip: Yo Mama’s drinks are homemade, like sweet tea and tropical punch. My suggestion is the lemonade.
