This Friday, March 14th, is Pi day—Pi, or 3.14, is a number that represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, according to PiDay.org.

Tbh, we’re not quite sure we remember that part of math class, but it’s a great excuse to get out and enjoy Birmingham.

Here are a few of our favorite ways to celebrate Pi Day in the Magic City.

1. The Lumbar

Did you know this year’s Pi Day falls on a blood moon total lunar eclipse?

Well, in case you didn’t know, you can head down to The Lumbar and celebrate both the eclipse and Pi Day with a moon pie and blood orange cocktails.

2. JaWanda’s Sweet Potato Pies

There’s never a bad day to get a sweet slice of pie. JaWanda’s Sweet Potato Pies has a huge selection of specialty flavors like pecan, sweet potato and more.

3. Pies and Pints

There’s nothing like a good ol’ pizza on Pi Day. This pizza joint has a variety of toppings and combinations to choose from. My favorite is this mushroom garlic pizza that is the perfect amount of savory and rich. Here is a peek at their menu:

  • Peppadew: red onion, bacon, goat cheese, and peppadews, finished with parmesan, honey and fresh herbs.
  • Street Corn: tajín, seasoned corn, jalapeños, parmesan, lime, cilantro, scallions & chipotle crema.
  • Mushroom Garlic: feta, roasted & fresh garlic, roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, fresh herbs & olive oil.
  • Hot Mama: capicola, fresh mozzarella, Mama Lil’s Sweet Hot Peppers & tomato sauce

4. Mama Suz’s Fried Pies

Mama Suz’s is a local homemade fried pie shop in Pelham and has some melt-in-your-mouth fried delicacies—including sweet, savory and even breakfast-friendly options. We love the banana pudding pie. It’s just like grandma used to make, but more picnic-friendly.

Stop by and grab your favorite on Pi Day or catch them at local places in Pelham by tracking them on Instagram.

Head over to the McWane Center for a day of fun! You can expect a creative exploration of Pi through activities like arts and crafts, plus learn how Pi factors into science from outer space to deep oceans.

6. Birmingham Public Library

Ensley’s Pi Day Program is a super fun way to create Pi artwork and socialize with friends and family.
