New mixed-use development featuring El Barrio + Paramount coming to Homewood this spring

A new mixed-use development featuring lofts, townhomes and brand-new locations for two popular Birmingham restaurants will be opening in the heart of West Homewood’s Entertainment District this spring.

West Row bringing new lofts, townhomes and more to West Homewood

In 2023, Bham Now learned about new plans for a redevelopment of the former Econo Lodge site (195 Oxmoor Rd) in West Homewood, located near the Oxmoor Road and I-65 interchange.

Led by Village Creek Development—a partnership between Tom Walker and Wicker Park Capital Management—the development is called West Row and aims to put residents within walking distance to everything the neighborhood has to offer.

When we developed our plans for West Row, we wanted to create a place that seamlessly integrated with the neighborhood and complemented its walkability.

Very soon we’ll see that come to life as kids walk to Hall Kent Elementary, families meander down to Patriot Park, and El Barrio and Paramount join one of Birmingham’s most diverse emerging food scenes.

Once complete, West Row will feature 18 lofts/apartments and 51 townhomes in the footprint of the 83,000-square-foot development.

According to architecture firm Poole & Co., the townhomes are 90% finished and are expected to be complete by the end of February, while the lofts and apartments are expected to be complete by early March.

The West Row mixed use project design capitalizes on the City of Homewood’s forward-looking Form Based Code that has successfully encouraged development of what was previously a forgotten piece of the Homewood fabric.”

West Row is currently leasing its units and offering hard-hat tours of the site.

El Barrio + Paramount opening new locations at West Row

Two popular restaurants from downtown Birmingham—El Barrio and Paramount—will be opening new locations at West Row in mid-March/early April.

In addition to these two restaurants, West Row residents will be within walking distance of a host of dining, retail and entertainment options:
