One of the most recognizable healthcare brands in Birmingham has a new name: meet Baptist Health.

The rebrand comes after the century-old Florida-based private not-for-profit healthcare organization Orlando Health took over the operations of Brookwood Baptist Health on October 1, 2024.

“The name Baptist Health speaks directly to our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ through holistic, people-centered healthcare.

We are a true faith-based healthcare system, and people will know that simply from hearing our name.”

Thibaut van Marcke, President, Baptist Health

Five Central Alabama hospitals include Baptist Health name

The system’s five central Alabama hospitals have also undergone name changes as well. They are:

  • Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital (formerly Brookwood Baptist Medical Center)
  • Baptist Health Princeton Hospital (formerly Princeton Baptist Medical Center)
  • Baptist Health Shelby Hospital (formerly Shelby Baptist Medical Center)
  • Baptist Health Walker Hospital (formerly Walker Baptist Medical Center)
  • Baptist Health Citizens Hospital (formerly Citizens Baptist Medical Center)

At the brand reveal, van Marcke summed up the new name best:

“It’s really important for us to honor our partners at Baptist Health System in this relationship by having one cohesive, unified brand — Baptist Health.”
