Before you throw these items away, load ’em up and dispose of them safely during Jefferson County’s Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, October 19.

According to Jefferson County, when hazardous waste is disposed of improperly, chemicals can contaminate our soil and water. 

This can affect the food we eat and the water we drink.

By attending Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, October 19, you will not only help clear out your house but also do something good for the environment.

As you prep for Household Hazardous Waste Day, here’s what will be accepted:

  • Automotive products like batteries
  • Gas + oil
  • Household products like aerosols
  • Outdoor products like insect sprays + pool chemicals
  • Paint products

Household hazardous waste items NOT accepted

While the list of accepted items is long, some things will not be taken during the event.

They include:

  • Ammunition
  • Asbestos
  • Medical waste
  • Radioactive materials
  • Unidentified materials

There is no cost to attend Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, but you will have to show proof of residency for Jefferson County with a driver’s license or car tag. 

The County asks that you group your items together and leave them in the trunk or on a utility trailer during drop off.
