MAX Transit is on a roll, recognized nationally as an Outstanding Public Transportation System

MAX Transit is one of four transit organizations nationwide to receive the Outstanding Public Transit System Award by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

The 2024 APTA Honors Award celebrates 13 organizations and leaders across North America for their vision and leadership in the public transportation sector.

Charlotte Shaw, the CEO and Executive Director of MAX Transit, expressed her excitement about the prestigious award saying, “I am absolutely thrilled to share that our dedication at MAX Transit has been recognized.”

The other three communities honored in the Outstanding Public Transit System category are:

  • SamTrans, San Carlos, California
  • Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, San Jose, California
  • Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Atlanta, Georgia 

Birmingham’s MAX Transit is growing

MAX Transit has been on a roll in the Birmingham Metro area providing over three million passenger trips annually.

Some of the new initiatives include:

  • Birmingham Xpress (BX): MAX Transit launched the Birmingham Xpress, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that offers rail-like convenience and efficiency. This system connects neighborhoods and popular destinations across Birmingham, providing amenities such as Wi-Fi, charging stations, and bike racks to enhance the commuting experience.
  • Expansion of Microtransit Services: MAX Transit has been expanding its microtransit services, including the Birmingham MAX On-Demand app, which allows for low-cost, on-demand transportation. This service aims to cover areas with low ridership and complements the fixed-route transit lines.
  • Upcoming New Mobile App: MAX Transit is set to enhance its rider experience with the upcoming launch of a comprehensive mobile app.  

Key features will include:  

  • Real-time tracking
  • Trip planning, 
  • Service alerts
  • Customization options that will enhance user engagement and convenience.
