The popular Max On Demand rideshare program is expanding again.

The program, which acts much like Uber or Lyft, last increased its service area east from downtown back in 2022.

The new expansion began this week on May 20th, adding  parts of the Kingston Neighborhood and Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

Riders can book and pay for a ride within certain areas around town by using the Max On Demand on the Via app (iOS and Android) or by calling 205-236-0768.

“This is awesome news for The eastern side of town! Whenever we can bring more transportation options to our residents and enhance mobility across our city, that’s a day worth celebrating. Reliable and affordable transportation is vital for connecting people to jobs, education, healthcare, and other resources.

Birmingham On-Demand‘s commitment to providing these services will not only make it easier for our residents to move around but will also support local businesses by increasing access to their establishments and opportunities to hire locally.”

Established in late 2019, the Birmingham On-Demand originally covered a 6.7-square-mile section of the city serving primarily UAB, CrossPlex and City Hall.

Thanks to the expansion it also supports the following destinations:

  • Ascension St. Vincent East
  • Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport
  • Birmingham Zoo
  • Fountain Height Recreation Center

“I’m very excited to see the continued expansion of Via throughout the City of Birmingham. While many developments progress gradually, my hope is to see it grow citywide and eventually countywide. Via is a valuable resource, offering reliable and modern transportation at an affordable price where traditional public transit isn’t available. This expansion would greatly benefit those who rely on affordable public transportation, providing the public with more options and greater mobility.”

Hunter Williams, Birmingham City Councilor for District 2
