After a four year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Terrific New Theatre is returning to the Birmingham theater scene with a newly renovated building and an exciting, abridged 2024-2025 theatrical season.

We took a tour of the Terrific New Theatre to learn more about the new building and the upcoming season.

Founded in 1986 by Carl Stewart and Steve Stella, Terrific New Theatre (TNT) is a non-profit community theater company bringing local performances to The Magic City. The TNT operated out of a location in Pepper Place for nearly three decades, until the COVID-19 pandemic forced a delay in the company’s production schedule.

“We lost our space at Pepper Place, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We began searching for a new home for the Terrific New Theatre and stumbled upon this beautiful building in downtown Birmingham.

Now, we’re able to make something bigger and better than we ever had, which was always the dream of Carl Stewart.”

In 2023, TNT purchased the former Alabama Auction Room building at 2112 5th Avenue North as a new, permanent home for the theater company. The 7,500-square-foot space has room for 100 guests and much more room for actors and theatrical staff in the back of house.

“For me, the most exciting part of this new location is… the location! We looked at 82 different buildings throughout the Birmingham area, but this is the perfect location for us.

The Redmont Hotel is right across the street, and we have great neighbors, plenty of street parking and wonderful restuarants right around the corner. This is an exciting opportunity for us to collaborate and be a great community partner.”
