A forward-thinking resale store

Longtime owner Sarah Randolph had the chance to live out her dream of being an entrepreneur in a big city.

When living in Portland, Oregon, Sarah noticed the thriving consignment shops and knew she had to get in on the action. She returned to Birmingham with hopes of opening a second-hand shop where customers feel seen and welcomed. Nine years later, she did just that.

rEVOLVEr resale has focused on providing customers with the ultimate shopping experience. Sarah was able to make her LBTQIA+ shop centered on love, equality and sustainability.

“I’ve appreciated the opportunity to share space with them and serve my community, and I will definitely miss the fun times I had talking to customers, hosting weekly happy hours, vendor markets and especially providing safe spaces for everyone to shop by having it be what I called a ‘gender-free store’ with no ‘women’s’ or ‘men’s’ sections.

Because clothes are just clothes, and gender is something we have constructed in our society.”

One year later, rEVOLVEr will be closing their doors at the end of the month due to the rising costs of owning a business.

However, this is not the end of Sarah’s journey.

“I am currently starting to look for a full-time job and would love to find something in the conservation field. I loved my last career as Outreach & Communications Director with Alabama Audubon, and my store’s main mission was environmental sustainability, which is where my passion lies.”
