Birmingham summers are gorgeous, but HOT. If you’re eager to get outside despite the scorching temps, we’ve got just the thing.

Check out five ways to get active and explore our city while staying hydrated.

1. Hiking + walking trails

Walking in Railroad Park
Railroad Park is one of my favorite places to walk in Birmingham. (Bham Now)

For a low-risk workout, try one of the many walking trails across the Birmingham area.

For those of you who like more of a challenge—we have spots for that, too.

Here are some of my favorite hiking and walking trails:

Of course, you always want to make sure you’ve got plenty of water—check out DASANI’s new look.

2. Outdoor festivals

3. Community sports

Cheers to pickleball at City Walk BHAM. (Bham Now)

There are plenty of ways to help you stay active and involved around town—like community sports.

My sport of choice—pickleball!

A friend and I hit up the courts at City Walk BHAM recently and even though we went early, it was still blazing hot by 10AM.

Luckily, we brought some DASANI water bottles along to keep us hydrated during our game.

This summer, Get Healthy on the Railroad is back at Railroad Park.

This program brings positivity to our city and promotes the overall health of locals through free classes.

Here’s a look at what classes you can take, no matter your age.

Bring your best attitude and a DASANI water, and you’re golden.

5. Get out on the water

Enjoy life outdoors at Canopy Park Apartments in Pelham. (Bham Now)
Lake Nicol is less than an hour from downtown Birmingham. (Bham Now)

The Alabama sun isn’t so bad when you’re on the water.

With beautiful bodies of water a few miles from downtown Birmingham, there are plenty of ways to make a splash this summer.

Cool off by floating down the river via kayak or tube, or bring the whole fam out to community pools around the area.

How are you exploring Birmingham this summer? Get outside and get active, but don’t forget your DASANI water!
