After 20+ years in the Birmingham animal care field, veterinarians David Daniels and Jason Vargas recognized the need for speedy and cost-effective after-hours pet care, so they decided to take action.

We sat down with Dr. Daniels to hear about what makes Double Oak Mountain Animal Hospital (DOMAH) so unique. Here’s what we learned.

Dr. David Daniels puts his heart into changing the vet community

After years of working and owning practices in Miami and Jacksonville, Florida, Dr. David Daniels followed his wife back to her hometown—Birmingham.

Daniels quickly earned the respect of other Birmingham-area vets who trusted their patients with his hospital for complicated diagnostic procedures.

Now, he’s one of the more well-known vets in The Magic City.

Understanding that your pets deserve thorough, high-end treatment, Dr. Daniels is progressive in his approach to medicine, offering gold-standard care while giving families the option to customize a care plan based on their goals and budget.

It was this eye for excellency and passion for pets and their people that led Dr. Daniels to pair up with like-minded Dr. Jason Vargas to create Double Oak Mountain Animal Hospital & Urgent Care.

A local partnership with a singular goal

With a shared belief in creating a veterinary hospital that would change the tides of Birmingham vet practices, Dr. Daniels enters into a partnership with Dr. Jason Vargas and DOMAH is born.

Dr. Daniel’s ownership experience and Dr. Vargas’ time working as a relief doctor in emergency medicine blossomed into Birmingham’s very first pet urgent care—one that was locally owned and family-oriented.

“We felt there was a need after hours, especially on weekends. We need to tap into urgent care because sometimes people need a place to take their animals but have to wait hours at an emergency hospital.

This gives them an alternative where they can be seen relatively quickly for less money.”

Cutting-edge technology + practices

With new technology and experienced staff, DOMAH can provide the best possible care for your four-legged friends.

How? By honing in on what they do best—medicine.

They saw how brand-new tech, like the flexible endoscopy unit, allows vets to retrieve foreign body objects lodged in your pet’s intestines in a non-invasive way.

With a focus on stocking the hospital with the most advanced medical equipment and the best doctors, DOMAH is embracing the future of vet medicine. It’s a field that has been changing at lightning speed to keep up with new discoveries and advancements, helping veterinary medicine to mirror the specialized sects of human medicine.

“We’ve invested our time and capital into building a premier pet healthcare facility that our community can turn to in these uncertain moments when their pet needs the best care possible. They can get it right here in their hometown.”
