Carver Jones Market coming to Fairfield
Food insecurity is one of the biggest challenges affecting the Birmingham community, with nearly 70% of individuals and families in the Birmingham area living in a food desert. Many of those living in a food desert are forced to choose between affordable food and food that is nutritious.
According to a press release, 100% of the 3,400 households in Fairfield—a city in western Jefferson County—have zero acceptable access to good, fresh food.
The Carver Jones Market aims to change that.
A minority-owned grocery store, the Carver Jones Market aims to provide the Fairfield community and surrounding areas with access to affordable, fresh foods and other key resources.
“Carver Jones exists to serve the whole person — body, mind, spirit.
‘More than a grocery store. A place to be fed.’ is more than a catchy slogan; it is a promise that we are making to this community.
We believe that Carver Jones Market will be used to bring hope to suffering and to reveal the redemptive power that comes from truly engaging in the lives of others.”
