Your guide to the best summer in Birmingham
Reading time: 3 minutes
Anyone else slowly but surely marking things off their summer bucket list?
If exploring Birmingham is on your list, then you’re in luck. The Magic City is full of fun and unique places and experiences to help you have the summer of your dreams.
1. Buy your summer read at a local bookstore
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a huge fan of books.
With these local bookstores, you’ve got the perfect place to grab your summer read… or five.
2. Watch a drive-in movie at Grand River
Nothing says summer like a drive-in movie. Grab your best friends and hit the Grand River Drive-In in Leeds this summer.
3. Paddle, kayak or swim around Birmingham
It’s heating up in Alabama, and now is the perfect time to get out on the water.
Grab your sunscreen and explore some kayaking and canoeing spots around the Birmingham area.
4. Attend Sidewalk Film Festival
I went to Sidewalk Film Festival for the first time last year and fell in love!
You can mingle with old and new friends, watch independent films and create a newfound love for Birmingham.
- Festival dates: August 19-25
- Get tickets now
5. Support local vendors at farmer’s markets
A farmer’s market is a classic summertime essential.
Hit the town one morning and support Alabama farmers and vendors at one of the many local markets around Birmingham.
6. Race Go-Karts at the K1 Superspeedway
Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition?
Challenge your friends in a good, old-fashioned go-kart race at K1 Superspeedway—may the best person win!
- Location: 5960 Greenwood Pkwy, Bessemer, AL 35022
- Hours: Monday-Thursday Noon-10PM | Friday 11AM-Midnight | Saturday 10AM-Midnight | Sunday 10AM-10PM
7. Go on a picnic at a local park
One of my favorite ways to get out and about in Bham… a picnic!
Head to one of the many parks in the Magic City, picnic basket and best friends in tow.
8. Cheer on your favorite Bham sports teams
Legion FC, Barons baseball, Stallions football, you name it! Birmingham is home to so many stellar sports teams.
Cheer them on at a game (or two, or three) this summer.
The Birmingham Stallions play in the UFL Championship this Sunday, June 16.
