Last week when the dogwood trees were blooming, we headed to Homewood Central Park for a picnic and had the best time. It helped that our basket was full of delicious and refreshing treats, like the blueberry Topo Chico Sabores.

Check out some of our favorite picnic spots around the Magic City and what we recommend bringing along.

What’s in your picnic basket?

Our friends at Coca-Cola Bottling Company UNITED hooked us up with a few bottles of Coke Zero Sugar (already a hit in our office) and the brand-new Topo Chico Sabores. This sparkling water is light and refreshing, and a new favorite for my coworkers and me.

With any delicious drink, you’re going to need something to snack on, too. Here are a few of my picnic necessities:

Nestled on 37 acres is the beautiful, 36-year-old Avondale Park. As soon as you walk through the gate, you’re greeted by the eccentric Miss Fancy statue and immediately transported into a world of walking tracks, duck ponds, rose gardens and more.

Location: 4101 5th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35222

2. Highland Park neighborhood

Highland Park has quickly become one of my favorite spots around Birmingham. Whether it’s grabbing a bite to eat at Rojo or enjoying the beautiful spring weather at one of the few historic parks, I can always find something fun to do.

Here’s a glance at where you can set up your next picnic:

3. Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Step away from the city and immerse yourself in the dreamy landscape of Birmingham Botanical Gardens. When you reach your Insta-worthy spot, settle in and enjoy.

My friends and I love wandering the Gardens—it’s only a matter of time before we’re back in the Japanese Garden having a picnic.

Location: 2612 Lane Park Rd, Birmingham, AL 35223

4. Homewood Central Park

Amidst the bustling Oxmoor Road between downtown Homewood and Edgewood sits Homewood Central Park. We set up a picnic here one morning with our Coke Zero and Topo Chico Sabores and didn’t want to leave!

Plus, right across the street is Bitty & Beau’s Coffee.

Grab your friends, a cup of Joe and all your picnic supplies and have a fun afternoon at the park.

Location: 1632 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL 35209

5. Railroad Park

It’s not a picnic guide without mentioning Railroad Park. This classic is my go-to when it comes to a coffee run at The Red Cat Coffeehouse, a quick lap around the park or a birthday picnic. I guess that’s why it’s affectionately known as “Birmingham’s Living Room.”

Location: 1600 1st Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233

Where’s your favorite picnic spot around Bham? Get out and about this spring—but don’t forget your Coke Zero Sugar or Topo Chico Sabores!
