Dave’s Pub, the iconic bar at Five Points South, has closed temporarily.

According to a post on the Dave’s Pub Instagram account, Dan Williams and his wife Sherri have taken ownership of the place and intend to implement some renovations. They also indicated they will keep the current staff.

The renovations will be made while the new owners secure a liquor license. The owners confirmed on Reddit they have received approval from the neighborhood Association.

“Hi Birmingham! My name is Dan. My wife Sherri and I bought Dave’s Pub on Tuesday. We appreciate all of the well wishes and support we have received from the 5 points community as well as the whole city of Birmingham. We are humbled by the amount of people who love Dave’s Pub and we wanted to let you know, Dave’s will be back open soon.”

Beloved Five Points South gathering place

Established in 1995, Dave’s Pub is located on the ground floor of the Terrace Court apartments at 1128 20th Street South in Five Points South.

It is known for supporting local musicians and its prime location for the community’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

2024 has seen many changes in the Five Points South Neighborhood. Last week, a new restaurant near Brother Bryan Park called Magnolia Point announced plans to open this summer. Rocky’s Pizza and Eggholic are expected to open soon.

The entertainment district has also lost Black Market Bar & Grill (moving to Avondale) and Urban Parc.
