Popular Indian street food restaurant coming to former Waffle House space in Five Points South
A new restaurant specializing in Indian street food is coming to the former Waffle House space in Five Points South later this year. Founded in Chicago in 2018, Eggholic has since expanded across North America—now, the restaurant chain is opening a new location in Five Points South in early 2024.
We spoke with local franchisor Ishan Patel to learn more.

Local restauranteur Ishan Patel—who operates Hungry Howie’s Pizza in Irondale—is working with Eggholic to open a location in Birmingham. Ishan first tried Eggholic while on a trip to Chicago—the original home of the franchise.
“The dishes at Eggholic really caught my attention. I’m Indian, and it tasted just like authentic street food you’d find in India. Until recently, Eggholic hasn’t had any stores in the South. They opened a location in Nashville last year, so I thought it’d be great to bring Eggholic to Birmingham.”

Ishan worked with Reid Renegal of ACRE Real Estate to identify an appropriate home for Birmingham’s first Eggholic. After some searching, Ishan decided to rent the former Waffle House space at 1034 20th Street South in Five Points South. The space is owned by Orchestra Partners and represented by Lyndsy Yim of SRS Real Estate Partners.
“Five Points South appealed to me because it’s a very busy part of Birmingham. Being so close to UAB, there is a lot of foot traffic in the area and we’re really excited to be bringing a new restaurant to this part of Birmingham.”

According to Ishan, the built-out for Eggholic will take roughly six months. He anticipates opening Eggholic in Five Points South in early 2024.
