Did you know there’s an office off Highway 280 with an archery range, mobile hunting cameras and a lake built into their business? We recently met Erich Volkert, a recent transplant to the Birmingham area, there.

He’s Vice President of Product Management at Moultrie Mobile and is thrilled with the decision he and his family made in 2023 to move from Silicon Valley to Indian Springs. Keep reading to find out why.

Meet Erich Volkert

What is Moultrie Mobile?

Moultrie Mobile makes hunting and outdoors products, including cellular trail cameras, connected feeders and a comprehensive app that allows you to plan your hunt.

Volkert says they’re growing quickly and is a big fan of the company’s strong culture:

“From the very first time I met the team, I could tell they were both colleagues and friends.

The other thing that stood out to me was the ratio of high curiosity to low ego. The openness to learning is a strong part of the culture here, and that allows all of us to grow.

Finally, there’s a lot of opportunity for Moultrie Mobile to incorporate new technologies and be innovative.”

Startup within a large company

Volkert likens Moultrie Mobile to a startup, with all of the benefits that come with working in a small company and few of the downsides because of the relationship with its parent company EBSCO.

“It’s the best of both worlds. We have the infrastructure and funding to make the investments necessary to grow our business, but we operate nimbly as a tight-knit team.”

He enjoys working for a company whose products support both a lifestyle and a hobby.

“It’s fun to come to work to hear from our customers and imagine what we can do to make our products better.”

Volkert is excited to learn more about the area and experience his first Birmingham spring and a trip to the Gulf Coast.

“It’s funny to me when people in Birmingham complain about traffic or a drought. I never considered a 25-minute drive long or three weeks without rain to be a drought.
The thing I hope I never take for granted is all the trees.

The other thing that stands out is Southern hospitality. People here have been welcoming, generous and polite. We really enjoy that!”
