It was always real estate for Grayson Glaze

Grayson Glaze has been around real estate for as long as he can remember. His first job was cutting grass for Sealy Realty in Tuscaloosa as a teen, he was a licensed real estate agent by 23 and a broker by 25.

“My dad ran a real estate company and I always knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps. It was destiny that real estate and Grayson Glaze would do life together.”

It took some trial and error to find exactly where his skills fit into real estate.

“Identifying your weaknesses is important. The biggest thing I learned about myself is that I was risk averse. With the commission style of doing business, I didn’t know when my next check was going to come. So, I knew I either had to transition away from that or conquer through it.”

That’s when he found his calling in property management, where his passion for others and servant’s heart were put to good use (plus, he had a consistent salary).

“It’s all about creating value through relationships.”

This phrase kept coming up when Grayson shared about his real estate journey.

“I always go back to my goal of creating value through relationships. My job is to enhance and bring value to the relationships that come to me every day, whether it’s a student, an industry professional, a staff member or someone from the community we’re serving.”

When we asked what makes a good relationship, trust, attitude, giving and serving were at the top of Grayson’s list. He also made sure we knew these things come with time and hard work.

“Sometimes, trust and other skills manifest through the accumulation of knowledge over the length of your career. I learned by cutting my teeth on challenging properties, which made me appreciate when I had a chance to grow into a higher profile office building where I was really able to work deeper on people skills.”

Leading the future generations of real estate

It is clear that Grayson is dedicated to shaping the future of real estate and luring more students into the field. Alabama’s real estate program has grown to become the largest in the country with over 800 students representing 37 states. In fact, Alabama is the nation’s largest real estate program.

Plus—Grayson worked with his team to create Career Opportunities in Real Estate (CORE), a initiative designed to bring more people from underrepresented groups into entry-level positions in the real estate industry. Because of CORE, over 16% of The University of Alabama’s real estate students are from minority backgrounds.

“My purpose and passion in life has really fallen towards service to the students. I have found a career where passion meets purpose. I love being able to invest in the next generation of real estate. We’re making incredible progress producing future real estate talent.”
