Openings + closings happening around The Magic City this week

It’s another beautiful day in The Magic City, and we’re excited about some cool new openings to help ring in the new year. Keep reading for the details on new and coming soon Birmingham businesses to check out, plus three closings we’re sad to wish farewell. 

Openings

1. I Do Wedding Chapel | Roebuck

According to the Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ), I Do Wedding Chapel is open in Birmingham. The new small business offers everything from elopements, intimate weddings, civil ceremonies and walk-in vow exchanges.

2. Umami | Trussville

Umami offers Asian-Inspired cuisine and sushi. The beloved Birmingham restaurant is opening its second location soon in Trussville. The menu was created with a goal to provide guests with a unique Asian-cuisine experience with carefully selected ingredients. The Pinche Arroz is a must-try.

3. Stay Gold Tattoo Studio | Lorna Town Square 

According to the Hoover Sun, Matthew Crane, owner of the Stay Gold Tattoo Studio shops in Fultondale and Birmingham’s Southside, is in the process of moving his business from Five Points South to Lorna Road. Hoover will soon have it’s very own tattoo parlor!

4. Otoro Hibachi | Homewood

A new hibachi and sushi spot is coming soon to Homewood. Otoro Hibachi serves a variety of favorite dishes and takeout necessities like crab rangoon, gyoza and spring rolls. While no opening date is on the books yet, Otoro Hibachi can be found on Green Springs Highway at Edgemont Town Center with additional locations in Hoover, Leeds, Tuscaloosa and Montgomery.

Closings

1. Queen’s Park | Downtown

Last week we said a sad goodbye to Queen’s Park. Loved and known for their eccentric energy, cocktails and of course, the holiday-themed Miracle Bar, Queen’s Park will definitely be missed.

2. Urban Parc | 5 Points South

Another local eatery we had to say goodbye to last week was Urban Parc. The restaurant opened in April 2023 by Draper Mason and included a fine dining restaurant, an arcade with vintage games, a rooftop bar and more. Eight months later, the entertainment venue was preparing to close up shop on December 31.

3. Dondi & Shell’s Food Oasis | Helena

According to the Shelby County Reporter, Dondi & Shell’s Food Oasis closed its doors for the final time on Friday, December 29. The local Helena restaurant was known for serving fresh cooked meals that rotated daily.
