Happy Monday, Birmingham—you’ve made it to another week. Start off your day by getting in the know. Four new businesses (including mouth-watering pizza) are headed to The Magic City, and we’re saying a sad goodbye to four others. Let’s take a look.

1. Good Pizza Club | Downtown

A new mom-and-pop pizza shop is coming to The Magic City. Good Pizza Club will be sharing space at Last Call Baking Company, creating a perfect blend of delicious baked goods and mouthwatering Detroit-style pizzas.

2. Chicken Salad Chick | Gardendale

Exciting news, Gardendale! A brand-new Chicken Salad Chick location is set to open its doors on Tuesday, December 19, promising a grand opening celebration filled with free merchandise, giveaways and more. Founded in Auburn, Alabama by Stacey Brown, Chicken Salad Chick has several locations in the Birmingham area, including this newest one in Gardendale. 

3. Cicis Pizza | Trussville 

According to the Trussville Tribune, Cicis Pizza is planning to reopen the Trussville restaurant in Trussville Crossings. The restaurant first opened its doors in October 2016, quickly establishing itself as a beloved family dining spot. However, in the aftermath of the pandemic, the popular pizza chain faced challenges reopening.

4. Uncle G’s Pizza | Hoover

Great news from Uncle G’s Pizza! Known and loved for their delectable food truck pizza, they’ve revealed plans to launch a brick-and-mortar location in Riverchase next year. Stay tuned for additional updates as the new year approaches.

Closings

1. Smokehouse Steak and Seafood Restaurant | Thomas

After 63 years, Smokehouse Steak & Seafood is closing its doors on December 22. Known for its diverse menu featuring meats, Southern sides and Greek fare, the cafeteria-style restaurant gained local favor with fresh produce from the nearby farmers’ market. Don’t miss the chance to say goodbye and relive memories one last time.

2. Left Hand Soap storefront | Pepper Place

Local small business Left Hand Soap Company, located in Pepper Place, has made the decision to close its physical storefront and shift exclusively to online sales on December 11. You can still shop the products online, but make sure to place your orders soon for the holidays.

3. Rodney Scott’s BBQ | Avondale

Rodney Scott’s BBQ in Avondale closed its doors permanently on November 26, with plans to merge operations with the Homewood location. The Pihakis Restaurant Group, overseeing Rodney Scott’s BBQ and other local eateries, has undisclosed plans for the former Avondale site. Stay tuned for further announcements about the future of this renowned barbecue establishment.

Moving

1. Avondale Common House | Avondale

Avondale Common House is changing things up. After the new year, the restaurant will be relocating and merging with Ferus on 41st, just down the street. Avondale Common House will be closing its doors on December 31, but mark your calendars to visit the new location on January 3 for a fresh and exciting dining experience.
