About Sugar Plum Shop

This heartwarming program is designed to bring the wonder and magic of the holiday season to inpatients and their families who find themselves spending the holidays at Children’s of Alabama. Parents can give their children wonderful gifts, completely free of charge.

Sugar Plum Shop—by the numbers

Through the continued generosity of devoted donors and valued community partners, Sugar Plum Shop brought joy to 599 children in 2022, including 284 patients and 315 siblings.

Fun facts about how Children’s makes the holidays special:

• 70 trees + vignettes are displayed throughout the hospital.
• Children’s offers more than 60 holiday greeting cards featuring patient artwork.
• Children’s gave out more than 140 holiday room-decorating kits last season.

“I save my paid volunteer day for Sugar Plum Shop when it comes up every year. I tell my friends at work, ‘If you get the opportunity, it will be your best volunteer day ever.’ Volunteering at Sugar Plum Shop is humbling and rewarding at the very same time.“
