Highlands Bar & Grill was the most-commented restaurant that Birminghamians are missing….

Highlands Bar & Grill was named the best restaurant in America by the James Beard Foundation in 2018.

In a past interview in March of 2022, Frank Stitt, chef and co-owner, mentioned:

“We like to think within the next few months, we’ll have Highlands open even though we’ll probably just start with both sides of the bar being open at Highlands. That’s exciting and on the horizon.”

Frank Stitt, Chef + Co-Owner, Bottega Café

2. The Burly Earl

This beloved bar closed back in 2008, after being open since 1976.

They were known for their loyal regulars and family-feel.

There was even a wedding reception held there!

3. Bahama Breeze

This Caribbean-style grill was well-loved!

Missing it too much?

No worries… there’s a location in Kennesaw, GA if you’re wanting to take a road trip.

4. Babalu

Known for their southern cuisine with a Latin flair, they closed in March of 2020.

The pandemic really impacted our restaurant scene!

If you’re still needing to visit, you can take a trip to Knoxville, TN.

BTW: The old Babalu location is now inhabited by Umami, another local fav.

5. Johnny Carino’s

This top tier Italian restaurant has definitely not been forgotten.

Our followers let us know that they miss their go-to date night spot!

They are craving their nachos and bellini pitchers…

6. Cocina Superior

This Mountain Brook fav was also sadly closed the summer of 2020.

Our followers were huge fans of the food + atmosphere of their beloved favorite restaurant.

Our office was a big fan of their fajitas!

7. Marsh Bakery

Now that’s a big cake… (Bham Wiki).

Marsh Bakery was a Bham staple since the 1920’s!

Originally known as the Floral Park Bakery, they changed their name to Marsh Bakery in 1932.

The original comment had over 90 likes… must be dearly missed by the community.

8. Silvertron Cafe

Named after a previous tv repair shop in the building, Silvertron was known for their diverse Tex-Mex menu.

Wanting to move back to Italy, the owner closed the restaurant in 2018, after the restaurant had been open for 32 years in the Bham community.

9. The CowFish Sushi Burger Bar

Cowfish was a super popular burger and sushi restaurant. I know… burgers… and sushi!

Our office was a big fan of this eatery too.

Our videographer, Ben Johnson, says they had the best milkshakes in Bham— rating them a 10/10.
