A Birmingham tradition — thousands of people turned out at Sloss Furnaces to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos Thursday night

Bham Now was on hand and this is what we saw.

The two day festival (Thurs-Fri) which includes altars honoring loved ones, artwork, face painting, masks, latin cuisine, mariachi bands, a memorial roll call and procession has been organized by a local nonprofit Bare Hands, Inc. for 21 years.

Enjoy the photos below taken by Bham Now’s own Nathan Watson — and don’t forget the festival continues on Friday.
