In the unofficial start of soup season, our team here at Bham Now enjoyed some comforting eats. Keep reading for some of our favorites, and save this guide for when your friends are asking, “Where should we go to eat tonight?”

Gyro + Baklava from Al’s Deli + Grill

“This was my first time trying Al’s, and it did not disappoint! My gyro was delicious, but it was the baklava that stole the show! It was the perfect amount of flaky, sweet, and rich. I would have eaten 5 more if I could have!”

Jessica Allen, Senior Account Executive

Snapper Collar from Le Fresca

“I will get this from Le Fresca every time they have it, no matter what. It’s the most tender meat on the fish, pan roasted and topped with a lemony, herby salsa verde. It’s light and fresh but has a huge punch of flavor.”

Grace Howard, Content Producer Intern

Double Cheeseburger from Local Roots

Local Roots Double Cheeseburger (Pat Byington / Bham Now)

“This is the best burger in Alabama — period. Not only is it massive (I occasionally cut it in half and share it) the ground brisket and chuck beef patties are cooked fresh. The sweet ‘local roots pickles’ are also a wonderful surprise.”

Pat Byington, Content Director

Everything at Food + Fire

“I attended the Food + Fire event at Sloss this month and enjoyed a ton of local BBQ! One of my favorite local spots, Aww Shucks, was there. Their Mexican street corn and garlic parmesan cobs always hit!”

One from yours truly! I tried Taj India for the first time this month and promptly went back for more. Their lunch buffet has tons of vegan and vegetarian options, all with their own unique flavors and spice combinations.

Spicy Swineapple Pizza from Trattoria Zaza

“The perfect mix of spicy and sweet, the this pizza might just change the minds of those who don’t like pineapple on pizza.”

Loaded Fries from Creole Connection

Creole Connection Loaded Fries (JeVante Shropshire / Bham Now)

“These loaded fries were some of the best I’ve ever had! The crawfish sauce was perfect and the seafood on top was so fresh—it couldn’t get any better. I would recommend these to all seafood and potato lovers.”

“I could talk about this chicken and rice soup, or anything at El Barrio, for hours. I tried it for the first time this month and came back for more just two days later. Pair it with El Barrio cornbread and thank me later.”

Raspberry Cream Cheese Croissant from Continental Bakery

“This raspberry cream cheese croissant from Continental Bakery had a super yummy filling, but not too much. It was perfect! It paired well with the rose lemonade they sell there, too.”
