Jefferson County is actively involving its residents in the planning process and recognizes the importance of community engagement for the overall strength of the county.

The second round of meetings will begin with a presentation that touches on compiled feedback from previous meetings, explaining local historical and economic data, as well as comparison with regional and national trends.

“As more information is disseminated and feedback is compiled the vision for the county’s future evolves. Continued involvement keeps the public informed and keeps the plan focused on the vision of the residents.”

Michael R. Morrison, Department of Development Services Zoning Administrator, Jefferson County

Following the presentation, there will be an open house with several work sessions to get more public input.

“The consulting team is working full-speed ahead. We hope to have the Comprehensive Plan in place by this coming Spring.”

Michael R. Morrison, Department of Development Services Zoning Administrator, Jefferson County

The Jefferson County Comprehensive Plan will serve as a guide for decision-makers in the county, including county officials, planners and developers, particularly in unincorporated areas.

“These meetings are where we solicit feedback and public opinion to help form what will be the county’s vision for growth and sustainability for the next 20-30 years. In shaping the vision of the county, it’s imperative to have public involvement and support.”

Michael R. Morrison, Department of Development Services Zoning Administrator, Jefferson County

What’s happened so far with the Jefferson County Comprehensive Plan?

Jefferson County held three public meetings across the county to get feedback on the direction of land planning in unincorporated areas.

“The most interesting takeaway from the first round of public meetings was the desire for more parks and recreational facilities. The public also expressed a somewhat favorable opinion of the concept of mixed-use development, where there is retail development at the street level and multi-family units above.”
