As a result of the surprise terrorist attacks from Hamas on Israel this past weekend, Alabamians have been asking, “How can we help?” Several local groups have come together to answer that question, and here are some ways you can get involved.

Local resources + gatherings in Birmingham supporting Israel

Below is a list of resources we have received from the Birmingham Jewish Federation.

  • Levite Jewish Community Center: The J has been turned into a “living room” where people can support community members from 8AM to 6PM. Refreshments will be provided. The gathering right now is scheduled between October 9-13.
  • Collat Jewish Family Services: If you need counseling, this agency is available for unprecedented trauma caused by the horrific attack.
  • Jewish Federations of North America: This group is accepting emergency donations “to support victims of terror, help rebuild damaged infrastructure and address unprecedented trauma caused by the horrific attack.”

“Israel needs our support now more than ever. People can reach out to their elected officials to urge support. They can give to the Birmingham Jewish Federation’s emergency relief campaign (BJF.org) or invite speakers into their houses of worship to educate themselves on the facts of the terrorism we are witnessing. It’s very early in this disaster, and once needs are assessed and paths are cleared, there will be more ways to get involved.”

In addition, a solidarity rally has also been scheduled in support of Israel.

  • When: Tuesday, October 10 | 7PM

Additional international support + humanitarian aid for Israel

Alabama’s local chapter of the American Red Cross is encouraging locals to follow and support the efforts of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

This group is accepting online donations to provide support to those in Israel and the occupied territories. Members from the organization visit detainees in Israeli and Palestinian places of detention, and they work to improve access to essential services. Donations can be made online

Save the Children is providing aid to children impacted by the violence. Donations provide food and shelter to children impacted by the conflict. Donations to the Children’s Emergency Fund can be made on their website.

Stay tuned for additional information on ways you can help.
