When Matricia Horton experienced her first Evergreen Week at Regions eight years ago, she couldn’t believe the company set aside an entire week for fun and celebration of their associates every year. This year, she and others at Regions reflected on what this unique week means to them and why it matters to anyone who is looking for a great place to work.

In eight years with Regions, Matricia Horton has progressed from working in the Contact Center to Social Media Marketing.

“I think of Evergreen Week as Regions’ homecoming. I remember my first week going into the Contact Center…there were a lot of fun games and interactions where we got to know the personal side of our co-workers.

That entire week is about celebrating Regions associates—knowing that appreciation was incorporated into our culture was awesome.”

Right now, she’s busy looking for the perfect space-themed costume, to go with the decorations her department is planning for their floor. Customers love Evergreen Week too, and are on pins and needles waiting to see what the associates have planned for this year’s theme—Regions United: People, Power, Purpose.

“The customers look forward to seeing the personal side of our associates and not just the serious banking side.”

Regions has been recognized as an exceptional employer and and exceptional financial institution. Join their career community today.

During Evergreen Week, the company sets aside all but the most essential business for a week-long celebration of their associates and the communities they serve.

Examples across the company include:

  • Community service projects, including neighborhood cleanups or volunteering with Regions’ What a Difference a Day Makes program as a team
  • Games + scavenger hunts
  • Floor decorating contests + themed costumes
  • Picnics, parties + potlucks
  • Talent shows
  • And more

In 2022, the legal team prepared and served meals at Community Kitchens of Birmingham and threw in some fun competition:

“The…department divided themselves into two teams that went head-to-head to collect the most warm-clothing items, children’s activities and school supplies to support Community Kitchens of Birmingham, a family in need and a Birmingham public elementary school.”

Doing More Today

According to Doing More Today, they were able to collect more than 1000 items, and the winning team got a pizza party plus bragging rights.

What happens during Evergreen Week?

Evergreen Week celebrations have a unique flair across the company. (Regions)

  • 2023 Theme: Regions United—People, Purpose, Power
  • When: 3rd week of September | Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM
  • Where: across 15 states
  • Why: to recognize the role that associates play in the continued shared value and growth of the company
    • There are times during the week to recognize individual contributions, community involvement and the impact the company makes as a whole.

Ryan King, Head of Talent Acquisition, reflected on the deeper meaning of Evergreen Week, beyond cupcakes and balloons:

“We are one united company, striving for the common good for our customers, our associates, our shareholders and our clients. Evergreen is an opportunity for us 20,000 strong, to be united and to come together.”

Mel Campbell, Senior VP, Corporate Communications, touched on the company’s impact this way:

“You’re talking about millions of dollars that are being donated to charities across the 15 states where we do business, 10s of 1000s of volunteer hours that are gifted to the community every year and so much more than that.”

King said people ask him all the time what makes Regions a great place to work. The company’s impeccable culture, great reputation, good brand and financial security all come up in these conversations, but the one thing that stands out above everything else is the team atmosphere at Regions, where everyone feels like family. Evergreen Week is a big part of that.
