Cute alert! The Birmingham Zoo is looking for help naming two of the most adorable Red Panda cubs you’ve ever seen, just in time for International Red Panda Day on September 16. Keep reading to learn more.

You can help pick these cute cubs’ names

The two male cubs were born at The Birmingham Zoo on May 31 to Gizmo and Kodo and live in the Predator Building. Now, the Zoo is inviting the community to vote on their names. Voting is open now through Saturday, September 16.

Here are the options:

Option 1—Ajax / Kai: Ajax means earth and Kai means water/oceans, The Birmingham Zoo’s mission is to inspire passion to conserve the natural world.

Option 2—Cosmo / Meeko: Phonetically similar to their parents, Kodo and Gizmo, the pair of cubs are out of this world.

Vote now on The Birmingham Zoo’s social media stories:

Plus—one voter will be randomly selected to win a special private keeper chat at the front of the red panda exhibit with an animal care professional.

These cubs have all-star parents

According to The Birmingham Zoo, Gizmo and Kodo, the cubs’ parents, were recommended to breed as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Red Panda Species Survival Plan (SSP). This is both Kodo and Gizmo’s first time as parents.

“This success with our red pandas is the culmination of coordinated efforts from our entire zoo team over the past few years, starting with Gizmo’s arrival in 2020. While Kodo is a first-time mother, she has been a natural since day one and both cubs are doing well. We are all beyond excited for our new additions and are glad to share them with everyone!”
