Fall is just around the corner and we’re patiently waiting cooler weather. While the temps start to drop, it’s time to get moving with some Birmingham community sports. Lucky for you, we’ve rounded up a few we think are perfect for some friendly competition.

1. Birmingham GO Kickball

Take it back to your middle school days playing kickball with Birmingham GO. It’s a great way to meet new friends and make new memories in a non-intimidating game of kickball.

  • When: Registration ends Sunday, September 10, fall season begins Wednesday, September 20
  • Where: Cooper Green Field
  • Who: Players 21+; teams of 12 players with at least 4 women
  • Price: $64 for the season if you register by September 3, $67 by September 10 (includes a t-shirt)

2. Birmingham Pickup Flag Football

Athletic or not, Birmingham Pickup Flag Football has a spot for you. The league is simple, they provide the flags and footballs and only ask you to show up with your game face on.

Know before you go:

  • They get a headcount every week on the Facebook page.
  • Bring a dark colored and white t-shirt, cleats + water.
  • They play every Sunday, rain or shine.

Get back in the game, meet new friends and indulge in some friendly competition!

3. Central Alabama Cornhole

The Central Alabama Cornhole Club seeks to promote the growth of cornhole in Birmingham and help the community while doing it. All cornhole tournaments raise money for various causes and missions.

Cornhole is a fun and social game friendly for everyone, and through the Central Alabama Cornhole Club, you can support a great cause while playing. What more could you ask for?

4. Birmingham community sports + activities at The YMCA

With sports for adults and youth to be active and social, the Y fosters connections with new and old friends through fitness and fun.

5. Women’s Outdoor Club

6. New South Softball League

New South Softball League has provided a positive environment of competition for players in the Birmingham area since 1982. New South includes 10 teams in three divisions.

Although this is primarily an LGBTQ+ league, they encourage men and women of all experience levels to play.

7. Birmingham Track Club

The Birmingham Track Club (BTC) encourages running and walking participation of all individuals regardless of distance or pace.

This group is known for hosting various races throughout the year including Vulcan Run 10K, Adam’s Heart Runs, the Statue 2 Statue 15K and the Peavine Falls Run.

Join BTC for all the fitness and health benefits that come with jogging, running and walking.

8. Birmingham Ultimate Disc Alliance (BUDA)

Join an ultimate frisbee team with Birmingham Ultimate Disc Alliance! Coed pickup play every Thursday at 5:30PM and Sunday at 1:30PM at Patriot Park in Homewood. There’s also a coed Summer and Winter league that can be joined for more competitive play. The group has been around for a while and has a growing attendance as the sport of Ultimate Frisbee becomes more widespread.
