Originally founded in 2003 by Guillermo Castro—who also founded Sol Y Luna—Cantina Tortilla Grill was a popular Latin-American restaurant located in Pepper Place. Over the years, the restaurant operated additional locations in Inverness, Hoover, Cullman and Montgomery.

Four years ago, Cantina—now owned and operated by Jorge and Aimee Domingue Castro—announced their plans to move from their Pepper Place location to a space in Avondale. However, they elected to focus their efforts on re-opening Sol Y Luna and put Cantina on hold until they found the perfect location.

Fast forward to the present, and Jorge and Aimee have found that perfect location—the former Little London Kitchen space at 162 Oxmoor Road in West Homewood.

“West Homewood is perfect for us for a number of reasons, and we really just love this neighborhood and how the people here support local businesses. The location could not be better—we love being near the park and how people can walk and ride their bikes to us.”

According to Aimee, the new Cantina will feature familiar dishes that regulars know and love—as well as a couple new surprises.

“We’ll be bringing back all of the favorites from our old menu, including our popular shrimp quesadilla, our Cuban sandwich, our fish burger and—of course—our famous fish tacos. There will be a brand-new brunch menu as well that will be served on Sundays.”

Aimee and Jorge are aiming to reopen Cantina by the end of July, once the restaurant passes all necessary inspections.

Once open, Cantina will be open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, as well as brunch on Sunday.

Cantina Tortilla Grill is hiring ahead of their grand re-opening later this month. Learn more about available job opportunities and apply on Cantina’s website.
