“Greetings from the calmest week ever at Oakmont Chapel Presbyterian Church!”

That’s how Rev. Rachel Winter, interim pastor at the Oakmont Chapel Presbyterian Church jokingly described the shooting of the film — The Rivals of Amziah King, starring Matthew McConaughey — at her church last week during the July 2nd service.

“If you don’t know what I’m talking about, a little movie scene or a couple of little movie scenes were shot here this week and much to my chagrin, we did not get to meet the star and I’m very sad,” said Winter at the opening of the service.

Rev. Winter told Bham Now, she has been a big McConaughey fan since seeing him on the big screen in the movie “A Time to Kill.”

Despite missing the famous actor, Winter told her congregation the church intends to hold their own “red carpet” premiere.

“Hopefully in a year or so, this beautiful sanctuary will be featured in a scene or two. We will let you (the parish) know—and then we’re just gonna rent out a theater for the night and have our own little red carpet premiere,” said Winter.

She told Bham Now, McConaughey and the entire community is welcome to join her.

For the past two months there have been a number of McConaughey and The Rivals of Amziah set sightings. Last week, the crew was in Winston County and the Green Valley neighborhood in Hoover.

Winter wanted to express her sincere gratitude toward the people that made the shot happen and the crew.

“The set location guys were really neat to get to know. They were really kind and genuine people,” she added.
