As of June 7, Ascension St. Vincent’s Hospital received approval from a state regulatory board to build a freestanding emergency department in Pelham. Read on for all the details.

What this means for Pelham

The Certificate of Need Review Board, which regulates new healthcare facilities in Alabama, was the board who approved the project back in April. Now, Pelham residents can easily access emergency medical care. Pelham Mayor gave a statement on the impact this new addition will have on the city.

“We are eager to make this resource available for our residents. I know from experience that a freestanding emergency department like this can make a difference when minutes matter and lives are at stake.”

Gary W. Waters, Mayor, City of Pelham

Waters was among the 40+ city officials who supported this project, including state senators, state representatives, healthcare institutions and first responders. This freestanding emergency department is without a doubt needed and supported in the Pelham community.

This new facility will offer:

  • Diagnostics
  • Emergency services
  • Primary and specialty care services

The location for Ascension St. Vincent’s emergency department is planned for the site on exit 242 of Interstate 65. Design and engineering will begin soon, with the tentative date for the facility to open being summer 2025.

We know this addition means huge things for the development of Pelham, and we couldn’t be more excited.
