Terrific New Theatre is back– Check out their new home
Reading time: 2 minutes
Terrific New Theatre, a local nonprofit producing captivating live performances in the Magic City since 1986, has announced that they have acquired a downtown building. After three years of searching, they have found a new home that will serve as housing performance space and administrative operations.
About the new building
Formerly the Alabama Auction Room, TNT’s new home sits at 2112 5th Ave N. across from the Redmont Hotel. The building was purchased by long-time supporters John and Louise Beard through Harbert Realty Services and donated to TNT.
“John and I are extremely happy to support TNT in acquiring this historic building at 2112 5th Avenue North. My love of Birmingham’s community theater was nurtured by Carl Stewart, an original TNT founder. Seeing TNT return to actively participate as one of Birmingham’s essential community theaters feeds my soul.”
Louise Beard, long-time TNT supporter, in a press release from Terrific New Theatre
The building will be renovated into a dynamic and versatile performance space, with help from architecture firm LIVE Design Group and construction firm Locke General Contractors. According to Terrific New Theatre, they are expecting to open sometime in 2024.
TNT’s journey in Birmingham
TNT has been producing live plays, musicals and more for almost 40 years in the Birmingham community. Originally located on First Ave N., then at Pepper Place, suddenly the COVID-19 pandemic left TNT out of operation for three years.
Now, with the Beards’ donation of the 5th Ave N. location, the theater is back and excited to get the new space ready for both performers and audiences to enjoy.
“This strategic partnership between TNT, John and Louise Beard, and Harbert Realty Services is a testament to TNT’s commitment to growth, innovation, and enriching the vibrant arts scene in the Birmingham community.”
Tam DeBolt, Executive Director of Terrific New Theatre
