If you’ve ever had a sick pet on the weekend, you know it can be scary. If your vet is closed and you’re not quite sure you need to go the emergency room, Double Oak Mountain Animal Hospital (DOMAH)’s urgent care is the place to go. We got a behind-the-scenes look at what makes this pet urgent care so helpful. Keep reading to learn more.
1. It saves you a trip to the emergency room
One of the reasons an urgent care like DOMAH is so useful to Birmingham residents is because they’re able to see patients on the weekends who aren’t critical enough to need an emergency room visit, but need to be seen before their regular vet opens on Monday morning.
“It can be scary when you get home and find blood from a broken toenail or find that the entire loaf of raisin bread has been eaten with there only being a handful of emergency clinics in the area.”
Kelsey Stevens, Supervisor
Urgent care is streamlined for those unexpected weekend accidents. Most of us (myself included) hesitate to run to an emergency clinic on a Sunday night when our pet has eaten something they don’t agree with or gotten a cut while playing outside. DOMAH makes caring for your pet easier by allowing you to walk-in, get the necessary care and then return home.
2. It saves you money
Life is expensive, and unexpected medical treatments can put major stress on your bank account. But for pets with minor issues, DOMAH’s urgent care will save you money.
“I think urgent care is a great option to have in Birmingham because not everyone can afford to bring their pet to an ER for things that aren’t life threatening. DOMAH is a great alternative to help pets who are sick enough to need care now but it’s not an emergency.
Our goal is always to send pets back to their regular hospital happier and healthier than we found them, but we can also become that home vet if they don’t have one already.”
Talli DuBose, Urgent Care Technician
3. It lets emergency clinics focus on true emergencies
Having a pet urgent care in the Birmingham area is beneficial for both pet owners and members of the veterinary community alike.
“The service we provide helps our local emergency clinics by allowing them more time to focus on cases that are truly in need of emergency services. More options mean better care for the city’s pets regardless of how severe their case.”
Rosa Lopez, Urgent Care Technician
4. Your pet will recover faster
Common ailments like tummy upset might seem like something that can wait until Monday to fix, but the longer a pet waits, the longer it might take for their veterinarian to help them get better.
A pet who comes down with the stomach bug on Friday could wind up severely dehydrated by Monday morning. The same goes for cuts and lacerations. If your pup gets into a fight at the park on Saturday, what seems like a small cut could be infected by Monday.
“No one likes to see their pet feeling puny or in pain and we can help them have a faster recovery.”
Rosa Lopez, Urgent Care Technician
5. Your pet is in good hands at DOMAH
The best part about DOMAH is its awesome staff. My dog Sam had a bit of a stick mishap (we learned the hard way that sticks are not snacks), which led to a super sudden trip to DOMAH. The staff took care of him right away, at a much cheaper cost than if we would have gone to the emergency room.
DOMAH’s manager even followed up on Monday morning to check in and see how Sam was doing. As a pet owner, it’s a great feeling to know your pet is in good hands.
