Warmer days are finally here, so it’s the perfect time to get moving and join a Birmingham sports league. Take advantage of the beautiful, Alabama spring weather with these community sports right here in The Magic City.

1. Open play pickleball

Believe it or not, pickleball is the new up-and-coming sport, and what better place to try it for yourself than in the beautiful city of Birmingham? Try out pickleball at the Levite Jewish Community Center’s members-only open-play pickleball. All you’ll need are 2 or 4 players, equipment and a little practice before you’re a pro. Sign up to reserve the gym.

2. Women’s Outdoors Club

3. Birmingham Futsal

If you haven’t heard of futsal, you’ll want to give this sport a try. Futsal is a soccer game played on an indoor court with two teams of five. Birmingham Futsal has an adult league in the summer, but you can get your futsal fix with pickup games throughout the year. Be sure to follow along their Facebook to see when they’ll have a game and reserve your spot.

4. Birmingham GO Kickball

Take it back to your middle school days playing kickball with Birmingham GO. It’s a great way to meet new friends and make new memories in a non-intimidating game of kickball.

5. Iron City Hoops

Iron City Hoops allows elementary to high school children to grow in their basketball skills and form friendships along the way. You can sign up for games only, or the games + post player skills combo. These skills lessons focus on shooting stance, form and fundamentals. Registration for the spring league is open now.

6. Birmingham Sailing Club

Come sail away with Birmingham Sailing Club this spring. Not only does Birmingham Sailing Club provide programs and racing, but they also promote water safety and positive environments for all members.

In addition to the Birmingham Sailing Club, a Junior Sailing Program is offered.

7. New South Softball

Organized in 1982, the New South Softball League provides a positive environment of competition for players in the Birmingham area. New South includes 10 teams in three divisions and is a member of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA). Although New South Softball is primarily an LGBTQ+ league, they encourage men and women of all experience levels to play.

8. Magic City Pickleball Club

Club pickleball—I told you it was popular. Join the fun with Magic City Pickleball Club—they have leagues for all genders, ages and experience levels.

9. Dawson Men’s Basketball League

Nothing says “guy’s night” like a game of basketball. Join a league with Dawson Church this spring and play on either Tuesday or Thursday nights—you’re guaranteed a good time and a potential bond of brothers.

10. Alabama Cornhole Club

The Central Alabama Cornhole Club seeks to promote the growth of cornhole in the Birmingham area and help the community while doing it. All cornhole tournaments raise money for various causes and missions. Cornhole is a fun and social game friendly for everyone, and through the Alabama Cornhole Club, you can support a great cause while playing. What more could you ask for?
