It might only be February, but spring and summer will be here before we know it. Parents, it’s time to start thinking about swim lessons for your little one if you haven’t already. Below are some swim lesson options in the Birmingham area.
1) YMCA
The YMCA of Greater Birmingham offers private, semi-private, parent/child and group lessons.
Location: Across the Birmingham area including Downtown, Alabaster, Greystone, Hoover, Mountain Brook, Pelham, Shades Valley and Trussville.
2) Levite Jewish Community Center
The Levite Jewish Community Center (LJCC) provides lessons for kiddos eight months and up.

3) City of Birmingham Pools
City of Birmingham pools open Memorial Day Weekend. To take lessons, a child must be at least 4 feet tall and able to stand in 3 feet of water without assistance. Lessons are available for toddlers if a parent participates in the water with them. Call the city pool closest to you for more information.

4) Infant Self Rescue (ISR)
Have you heard about Infant Self Rescue (ISR)? These infant and young child survival lessons teach children as young as six months to float on their backs to rest and breathe in the water. These aren’t your standard 30-minute lessons—they typically meet five days per week for 10 minutes for four to six weeks. Learn more about ISR. Birmingham providers are listed below.
5) Alabama Swim School
The Alabama Swim School is led by Rafael Cadena, who previously coached at the LJCC, Hoover Blue Thunder and Birmingham Country Clubs. His swim school offers lessons to anyone from eight months to 81+ according to their website!

6) Swim Like Fish
Registration is now open for summer lessons at Swim Like Fish. They teach all stages of swimming, but private lessons for ages eight and up.

7) UAB Recreation
UAB Student Recreation offers swim lessons in packages of three, five and 10 to all ages. To register, you must submit a request online. Registration is open until March 16.

8) Swim with Miss Lynn
Swim with Miss Lynn teaches group swim lessons to children as young as 16 to 18 months along with toddlers and older children. Lessons are one hour long and meet Monday-Friday for two weeks. Register via this link.
