If youโ€™ve been around for long, you know weโ€™re always on the hunt for the best eats in Birmingham. March starts tomorrow, so weโ€™re back with the best things the Bham Now team ate this past month.

1. Seared diver scallops, Blueprint on 3rd

I knew this would make the best things we ate list as soon as my plate arrived. (Callie Puryear / Bham Now)

โ€œThis was my first time at Blueprint on 3rd and I could not have loved it more. The scallops were served over the best grits that I could have enjoyed a few plates of alone. The skillet pimento cheese appetizer was incredible too.โ€

2. Savory Toast, General

โ€œMy friend and I met for brunch at General in Forest Park. I had the Savory Toast, which was the perfect blend of crunchy toast and soft cheese with mushrooms, and a delicious balance of savory and sweet with a fresh fruit salad on the side.

Bonus: an old-time string band provided a delightful accompaniment to our meal.โ€

Sharron Swain, Managing Producer

3. Baked Ziti, Sanpeggios

Perfection. (Jacob Blankenship / Bham Now)

โ€œSanpeggios is a Bham favorite for quick and delicious pizza, but donโ€™t overlook the pasta. Their baked ziti is made to order and hits the spot every single time. Make sure to get the cheese bread too.โ€

4. Pork Barbacoa, El Barrio

El Barrio
The new Wednesday special at El Barrio. (Grace Howard / Bham Now)

This Wednesday special has grilled pork with BBQ sauce on a bed of sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, green apple, pickled jalapeรฑos and red peppers topped with pecans and queso fresco.

Itโ€™s really hearty without being too heavy and you leave feeling full and satisfied. Thereโ€™s a really nice sweet/salty thing going on with the sweet potatoes and green apple vs. the seasonal veggies and pork. For me itโ€™s a solid balanced meal that just happens to also taste really good.โ€

Grace Howard, Content Intern

5. Wine flight + Charcuterie, Golden Age WIne

Wine night goals. (Nadia Powell / Bham Now)

โ€œI tried Golden Age for the first time and it was amazing. Aside from the delicious wines + cheeses, the ambiance is what will bring me back for more. Also, they had an orange wine, which I didnโ€™t know was a thing. I didnโ€™t know which cheeses to pick so I asked my server to select her favorites.โ€

Nadia Powell, Assistant Account Executive

6. Farm Breakfast, Frothy Monkey

A classic. (Jacob Blankenship / Bham Now)

โ€œItโ€™s my favorite for this month because of the freshness and quality of the ingredients, the flavorful combinations of the various components + the cozy atmosphere and friendly service at Frothy Monkey.โ€
