What’s open + what’s closed on Presidents’ Day 2023

Presidents’ Day is this Monday, February 20. Because it’s a federal holiday, some businesses will be closed, but Bham Now is here to help you navigate what’s open and closed.

Did you know it’s officially called “Washington’s Birthday” to commemorate George Washington, the first US president? Although Washington’s birthday was February 22, 1732, a bill was passed in 1968 to celebrate the third Monday in February.
City, county, federal + state offices
All city, county, federal and state offices will be closed on Monday, February 20 to observe Presidents’ Day.
Mail centers
- USPS will not deliver mail
- FedEx will offer modified services
- UPS will operate fully
Banks + courts
Banks are generally closed on Presidents’ Day, but ATMs will still be available. The Jefferson county courthouses will be closed.
Schools
Public and most private schools are closed for the holiday.
