SMOKE is the latest culinary project from award-winning Chef Raquel Ervin. Originally from Mobile, Chef Raquel founded the Panoptic Catering company, SLIDE food truck and SLIDE cafe here in Birmingham.

“Any restaurant cuisine I open will pay homage to growing up where family and soul food met each other everyday. SMOKE will have a few twists that will elevate traditional soul food with a barbecue flare. Not everything will be smoked meats as you’d find in a traditional barbecue restaurant setting, but our sauces and sides will have variations and elevations that make them tasty yet unique.”

According to Chef Raquel, SMOKE will be located at The Pizitz Food Hall in the former Eli’s Jerusalem Grill/Edelyn’s Pie booth. The restaurant is expected to open in Spring 2023.

“My personal favorite dish will be my mothers old school homemade cornbread topped with a popular menu item from my catering company started back in 2014, the Honey Crunch Butter. After years of gained tons of attention on our rolls served at many of our full service events, I am happy to be able to offer an amazing combination daily. I’ve always been a meat eater, walking around carnivals and parks with a big turkey leg in hand. I knew once I launched this concept, the turkey leg was priority. I feel pairing a turkey leg with the traditional beef, chicken and pork, creates variety and offers a leaner meat option to the menu. These items will be a great choice for first timers along with my award winning 5-cheese baked macaroni and cheese!”
