Ready or not, the new year is here and there is no better time to set goals to become our healthiest, happiest selves. Birmingham is full of resources to help achieve those goals and our friends at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama are weighing in on how to be our best selves in The Magic City this year.

1. Healthy (and delicious) restaurants

If you’re anything like me, every single January you make the resolution to eat cleaner, but by the time February rolls around you’re back to fast food and processed snacks. Not this year! If one of your goals is to eat healthier, there are so many restaurants options around Birmingham that make it much easier and achievable.

2. Hiking + walking trails

As the sun starts setting a little later and the days get a little longer, it’s the perfect time to get out and get some fresh air—PLUS, get some exercise in while you’re at it.

3. Fitness studios

4. Make a difference by volunteering

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is no stranger to supporting local organizations and making a difference in the community. There’s no better feeling than helping others, especially in your own city. Luckily, there are countless organizations in Birmingham that could use your help.

Here are a few resources to get you started:

5. Learn a new skill

Sometimes, all it takes to get out of a slump is to throw a new skill in the mix. We could all use a new skill, and The Magic City is full of options that could be just the jolt you need.

6. Read more books

It never hurts to read a little more and the new year is the perfect time to turn those pages. Rather than binging a show or watching movies for hours on end, finishing a good book will leave you feeling much more productive. Plus, Birmingham has some of the most charming bookstores.
