It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the unveiling of the new 15-foot bronze Miss Fancy statue. See the big reveal on Saturday, December 10 at 11AM and find details below.

The story behind Miss Fancy

From the first whispers of a new Miss Fancy statue to the final bronze pour, Bham Now has been following the journey of a new bronze Miss Fancy statue for Avondale Park every step of the way.

Artist Nelson Grice has been working hard to bring the statue to life. The story of bringing a new Miss Fancy statue to Avondale Park traces back to one of the neighborhood’s most beloved civic leaders, Ron Council. When a smaller Miss Fancy statue in the park was damaged and later disappeared, Ron made it his mission to bring her back to her rightful place.

Tragically, he passed away before he could see Miss Fancy return. So, his wife Martha Council made it her mission to continue his legacy and raise money for a brand new Miss Fancy statue. It’s been a team effort from day one, and everyone’s hard work is about to pay off.

“It is truly a wish coming true. All of this has been made possible through the skilled hands of Nelson Grice, the sculptor and the wonderful financial support we’ve received over the last eight years from The Friends of Avondale Park and the community at large. It was always the desire of my husband Ron Council to see a replica of Miss Fancy return to Avondale Park and now it’s happening.”
