If you’re like me, you’re always looking for ideas of what to eat in Birmingham. Luckily, the Bham Now team eats their way through The Magic City on the reg. Keep reading for five of the best things we ate this month.

1. Roasted chicken + sides, Irondale Cafe

When you’re looking for what to eat in Birmingham, the Original Whistlestop Cafe is a delish choice. (Jessica Broom / Bham Now)

“I mean, how can a meat and three not be your favorite thing you ate this month? The chicken was to die for, the black-eyed peas were pretty close to being as good as my grandma’s (so really good) and the fried okra had the perfect amount of crispiness! Top that off with a yeast roll and a sweet tea and I don’t think I could have had a more classic Alabama staple.”

Jessica Broom, Account Executive

2. Cheeseburger, Back Forty Brewing Co.

I personally agree with Selah’s choice—the Back Forty burger is one of my favorites in Bham. (Selah Vetter / Bham Now)

“If you’re looking for a perfect game day bite, you can’t do better than a classic Americana cheeseburger, and Back Forty‘s is absolutely delicious. And, of course, you need a BamaMosa with it.”

Selah Vetter, Content Producer

3. Vegetarian plate, Eli’s Jerusalem Grill

“I ate the vegetarian/vegan plate at Eli’s Jerusalem Grill, which included falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, tabouli salad, red cabbage salad and their delicious pita bread, warm from the oven. Everything tasted super-fresh and flavorful.”

Sharron Swain, Managing Content Producer

4. Pulled pork sandwich, Creekside BBQ

“I tried Creekside BBQ for the first time after hiking at Oak Mountain State Park, and it was amazing! I’m a self-proclaimed sauce gal, so I loved that they had red and white barbecue sauces on the table so I could load up my sandwich.

Pro tip: Order the mac and cheese on the side, then add your extra meat and drench it in barbecue sauce for a mini loaded mac and cheese.”

Cecilia Wood, Social Media Manager

5. The Jack Benny, Big Bad Breakfast

“This is my ‘go-to’ breakfast spot in downtown Homewood. I am an Eggs Benedict connoisseur. You can’t go wrong at Big Bad Breakfast. Tip: Try the Redneck Benny too!”

Pat Byington, Content Director
