How this Pumpkin got saved by a local company who cares

As a locally-owned company, LAH Real Estate is committed to supporting local charities and nonprofit organizations. We spoke with members of the LAH Real Estate team to learn more big things they do for Birmingham.
LAH Real Estate’s Year-Long Giving
At the beginning of each year, LAH Real Estate President Maurice Humphries sends out a company-wide email, asking each of the company’s 200+ agents to send in any charities or nonprofit organizations that are important to each individual agent. Throughout the year, LAH Real Estate supports each and every charity on the list. Wow!
“Our owners, managers and agents—everyone at LAH Real Estate—live and work here in Birmingham, so it’s important to us to give back to these organizations.”
Debbie White, Vice President of Operations, LAH Real Estate
Last year, LAH Real Estate supported 56 local charities in the Birmingham area. Click here to view the full list.
One of the beneficiaries of multiple donations from LAH Real Estate is Underdog Rescue of Alabama, a nonprofit dedicated to the rescuing and rehoming of both dogs and cats.
“Pumpkin is one dog whose life was changed because of LAH Real Estate’s donations. Sweet Pumpkin was surrendered to a rural animal shelter in Alabama, and due to overcrowding, she was put on their euthanasia list. Thanks to LAH Real Estate’s donations, Underdog Rescue of Alabama was able to pull Pumpkin from the shelter the day before she was scheduled to be euthanized. Pumpkin has since been adopted and is a pajama-wearing, TV-watching, much-loved family member.”

Holiday-Season Giving
Community Food Bank of Central Alabama
During the holiday season, LAH Real Estate focuses on two big charities—the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
From the beginning of November until just before Thanksgiving, LAH Real Estate’s offices have a friendly competition to see who can collect the most food for the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama Food Drive.
“I don’t know if you know this or not, but real estate agents are competitive by nature, so we always get excited about the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama Food Drive. Our agents get to have a friendly competition while collecting food for a great cause. It’s a win-win!”
Debbie White, LAH Real Estate
After the food drive is finished, the entire LAH Real Estate team gathers at the Mountain Brook office to assemble all the food in one location. Finally, several agents and brokers take the food to the nearest Community Food Bank of Central Alabama location.
The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation
As soon as their fundraiser with the Community Food Bank of Alabama is finished, LAH Real Estate turns their attention to collecting new unwrapped toys for The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Started in 1947 by the United States Marine Corp, the Toys for Tots drive distributes an average of 18 million toys to 7 million less fortunate children each year!
From mid-November to mid-December, members of all LAH Real Estate offices—as well as their friends, family and community—drop off new and unopened toys for the drive.
