The Birmingham Xpress—a new, state-of-the-art express bus line connecting Five Points West to Woodlawn, with dozens of stops along the way—is officially open. The best part? Rides are FREE for the first 30 days.

“[The Birmingham Xpress] is one of the largest multimodal transit investments that we’ve made in the City of Birmingham—in this region, even—in a century. In the last century, we busied ourselves with building a world that is very car-centric. How many of us, myself included, drove here in a car today to this ribbon cutting to celebrate a transit investment? Today is a turning point, looking forward to a different kind of future with a lot more public transportation.”

As of today, the Birmingham Xpress is officially running, connecting 25 Birmingham neighborhoods through 32 stops. Hours of operation are:

  • Monday-Friday, 5AM-11PM
  • Saturday, 7AM-10PM
  • Sunday, No service

“The City of Birmingham is in the service business, and we need to get people from Point A to Point B on time. We need to get people from their home to their doctor’s medical appointment on time; from home to school on time; from home to work on time and vice versa. And so, through this partnership with the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority, today marks a major step in public transportation for the City of Birmingham.”

Mayor Randall Woodfin

The Birmingham Xpress joins the current BJCTA service of MAX Transit, paratransit with Birmingham OnDemand powered by Via and micro-mobility options like public bikes and scooters.
