Last week, we were saddened to learn that the beloved Bogue’s Restaurant had permanently closed after 84 years in Birmingham. However, several regulars and longtime employees joined us on Friday to share what made the restaurant so special.

Remembering Bogue’s Restaurant

On Friday, September 9th, Bham Now made a post on Facebook inviting regulars to share their fondest memories at Bogue’s Restaurant over the years. In addition to several regulars of Bogue’s Restaurant, we were joined by:

  • Ella Irby, a waitress at Bogue’s and keeper of the famed Sweet Rolls recipe
  • Kelli Casey, a waitress at Bogue’s
  • Evelyn Faulkner, granddaughter of longtime Bogue’s owner Andy Straynar

Since the restaurant closed without warning, the employees and regulars did not have a chance to say goodbye. Despite the inclement weather and short notice, people came out to say goodbye to their favorite restaurant and the employees that made Bogue’s so special.

Below are several photos from Friday’s meeting.

If you weren’t able to make it out, please share your favorite memories of Bogue’s Restaurant by tagging us on Facebook at @bhamnow.
