In her 37-year career in real estate, Beth Hardwick has seen a lot of changes. She’s seen housing markets go up and down and seen new technologies make the home-buying process easier for agents and their clients. However, the biggest change for Beth happened in 2013, when she joined forces with her daughter Rebecca to become one of Birmingham’s first mother & daughter real estate teams.

We spoke with Beth and Rebecca Hardwick to learn more!

About the Hardwicks

Originally from Birmingham, Beth Hardwick launched her career in real estate with Norville-Randolph in the 1980s. In 1996, Norville-Randolph merged with a relatively new real estate firm in Birmingham—LAH Real Estate—and Beth became a member of the LAH team.

“I’ve been in real estate for 37 years, and I started long before Rebecca was born. I took a break from my career when Rebecca was in high school, but I leapt back into real estate when she went to college!”

Over the years, Rebecca Hardwick has worked many different jobs in a wide variety of fields. In the 2010s, Rebecca left her then-home in Los Angeles to spend months volunteering with a non-profit in Uganda. After completing her contract with the non-profit, Rebecca returned to her hometown of Birmingham and worked in property management. Shortly thereafter, Beth convinced Rebecca to join her at LAH Real Estate.

“I wasn’t making a whole lot of money in property management, and Mom told me, ‘If you want to start making real money, you should come sell real estate with me.’ I was a bit unsure if the two of us could work together successfully, but it has worked out better than we ever could have expected!”

What’s it like working as a mother & daughter team?

Rebecca and Beth officially joined forces in 2013, and have become one of LAH Real Estate’s most successful teams. In fact, Rebecca was named LAH Real Estate’s Rising Star Realtor in 2013 and Beth was named Sales Associate of the Year in 2014. Each year, the Hardwicks have received both LAH’s Top Producer AND Owner’s Awards.

Rebecca: “We both love what we do and have a lot of fun working to find our clients the perfect home. It’s not just a working relationship, we create long-lasting friendships with our clients. To us, that’s special. Plus, our clients always get a quick response, because at least one of us is always here—it’s very rare that we’re both out of town!”

Beth: “Rebecca is so intuitive and has a great mind for problem solving. Plus, she’s so tech savvy! That’s why we have so many repeat clients—we work so well together.”

Since they joined forces, Rebecca and Beth have been able to complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses in the business.

Rebecca: “Getting into real estate on your own can can be quite a challenge, but getting into real estate with my mom—who’s been in the business for years and has dozens of loyal clients—has been a huge help for me. With her help, I’ve been able to learn as we go, and now we both bring a lot of business to the table.”

Beth: “I am definitely the old school real estate agent—meaning I like to print things out on paper! With the way things have shifted digitally, it’s almost always more efficient to sign documents online. Back in the day, I’d have to run all over town just to get an initial from a client. Now, it literally takes seconds. Rebecca is the tech wizard who can make all of that happen!”

But the best part of their job? Getting to help their clients find the perfect home.

Rebecca: “An experience that I had that I will never forget is when we were working with these clients for over 6 months.  We had looked at soooo many properties until one day, we saw “the one.”  I will never forget the look on our buyer’s face when she walked in the front door.  She had stars in her eyes.  We knew this was the one we had been looking for and neither one of us will ever forget that moment.”

Beth: “We just helped a young lady find THE condo she has been looking for for over a year. We don’t know how many realtors she tried working with, but I have never seen anyone get so excited! She is over the moon!”
